Switching organisation
This page is for anyone whose account belongs to more than one organisation. It covers choosing an organisation, switching between them, and what changes when you do.
Choosing an organisation
Section titled “Choosing an organisation”Signing in takes you to the chooser before it takes you anywhere else. The page is headed Where are you working?, with one row per organisation you belong to. Each row shows the organisation’s name and, on the right, your role there. Your role can be different in each one: admin in the first, support worker in the second.
Press a row to go to that organisation’s dashboard.
Knowing which one you are in
Section titled “Knowing which one you are in”On a wide screen the name of the organisation you are in sits at the top of the menu down the left, under the WholeVisit mark. Press it to go straight back to the chooser.
A narrower window has no room for it there, so the name appears in two other places instead:
- In the account menu, under your own name.
- At the top of the Menu panel, under the word Menu. On a narrow window the panel opens from the menu button in the header. On a phone it opens from the “Menu” tab along the bottom.
A long name is shortened on screen so it stays on one line. Hold your pointer over it to read the whole of it, or open the chooser, which always shows the name in full.
Switching later
Section titled “Switching later”Open the account menu (your photo, top right) and choose Organisations. That takes you back to the same chooser. Pick a different organisation and you carry on there.
Switching organisation lives in the account menu rather than the main navigation because it is an account-level act, like signing out, not a page within the organisation you are in.
What changes when you switch
Section titled “What changes when you switch”Everything scopes to the organisation you chose:
- The navigation, because it follows your role in that organisation. An admin in one and a support worker in another sees two different sets of pages.
- The dashboard, which is a different screen for coordinators and support workers.
- Times and dates, which are read in that organisation’s timezone.
- The rota’s week, which starts on the day that organisation starts its week on.
Nothing crosses between organisations. You cannot see a client, a visit or a report from one organisation while working in another, and a search never reaches across.
Your choice is remembered
Section titled “Your choice is remembered”The organisation you picked is remembered in the browser you picked it in, so you land straight on the dashboard next time. It is not remembered across devices: choose again on your phone.
If you are removed from an organisation you had chosen, you are sent back to the chooser next time you open WholeVisit.
Starting a new organisation
Section titled “Starting a new organisation”The chooser has a Create an organisation link underneath the list. You become the owner of anything you create, and you can add people once you are in. If you belong to no organisations at all, this is the only thing the chooser offers.
